L'Église

St Vaast

The church was built in the eleventh century and is dedicated to Saint Vaast, Bishop of Arras in the sixth century. The bell tower which contains two bells named Louise Olympe and Louise Françoise is distinctly different from any other in the region.
An imposing square white stone tower supports a smaller octagonal tower, with a small dome topped by a steeple which at 130 feet can be seen from miles around and was used as a
triangulation point when the Cassini brothers created their map of France in 1767.
The cemetery originally surrounded the church but was moved in 1874 to Rue de Donvoye.
